I know the other five women very well. Our friendships are such that we can pick right up where we left off the last time we were together.
Since I saw them last, I have moved across the country and begun my ministry here in Albany. Because I have gone through such a significant transition, I was acutely aware of how different all of our calls are. While some may be serving in churches, we are engaged in widely varying aspects of ministry. God is using all six of us in very different ways, but all of us are growing, learning and serving.
As I left my friends and returned to my home and church in Albany, I felt very affirmed in my call here. Being with people who know me so well reminds me of who I was when I first entered seminary and what drew me to ministry then. I look at my call here and see a very strong resemblance.
One day in January gave a snapshot of my work.
The day began with Bible study with people experiencing homelessness. Then in the office, I finished up work on our brand new newsletter format. In the afternoon it was on to coffee with parishioners and a neighborhood association meeting at night.
I ended the day with a summary on Facebook: "I love my job!"
