From Tema
Here we are in the port city of Tema, where are partner churches are located. We have been enjoying some true Ghanaian hospitality morning noon and night.
Sunday we worshiped in both congregations: Redemption and Greenwich Meridian. Many people who have welcomed previous Westminster teams asked after our members. And, I have to say, it seems like the whole of coastal Ghana sends greetings to Willie White! (http://avillage.webs.com) Apparently, he made quite an impression.
Last night we joined with people across the globe to watch the final game of the World Cup. Even though people in Ghana didn't really have a side they were rooting for, we watched on a big outdoor screen with people gathered all around.
We also met with our partners who are preparing to come visit Westminster in September. Today, the whole team piled into cars and traveled over an hour to Accra to get passport photos taken for their visas. I was touched to see our partners dressed well and polished, ready for their close-up. It made me think how this partnership really impacts our lives on both sides of the ocean. My husband and I had to get all of our photos, shots, and paperwork in a row in order to be here this week. It was no small feat that everything worked out for us. And now we are praying with our partners that the process goes smoothly for them.
Tonight, we go to the session meeting at Greenwich Meridian Church. Yes, wherever two or three Presbyterians are gathered, there will be a session meeting! Tomorrow, we will travel out to some of the villages that Redemption Church is doing mission work in. We look forward to learning more about those projects and how we can support the good work they are doing.
