Saturday Morning in Ghana
Saturday morning here in Ho in the Volta Region of Ghana. After breakfast, I will lead a morning devotion on Psalm 42 - "As the deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs after you." We have been talking about water and sanitation in Ghana this week, learning about the current challenges and hopes for the future. Water is such a basic need that we cannot live without. The psalm reminds me that sometimes we take God for granted just like we take water for granted. We turn on the tap and it's there. We say a prayer and God is there, without living into the urgency of our need for God's sustaining love.
Our friend and partner, Barbara Asempa, is having a funeral this afternoon for her father-in-law. Zach and I will attend in order to pay our respects before we go back to Tema. Sunday morning we will worship at Redemption Church for the early service and then at Greenwich Meridian for their combined communion service. The two congregations will host us for the following days and show us some of their mission projects, welcome us into their homes, and take us somewhere to watch the World Cup Final game.
We are at an exciting stage in our partnership with these two congregations. We have known them for a long time, but we are entering a new chapter. This is a time when we can brainstorm and dream together for what the Holy Spirit has in store for us next.
