These are questions I mulled over during our experiment with highly participatory worship this past Sunday. We always participate in worship, and it is always the work of the people no matter what form worship takes. This Sunday it took some different forms.
Scripture readers jumped up from their seats and read verses aloud. We all spoke our prayer concerns, shared something we believe about God and joined in conversation with those in the pew next to us about our image of God.
However we conduct worship, we say something about who we are and what is important to us. This past Sunday, I wanted to take the power and expertise away from the pastor (me) and give it back to the people. We even shared the blessing together as the people of God.
When we look at the world around us, God cannot always be pinned down. The Spirit's dynamism continuously shakes things up. This week, worship at Westminster was hard to pin down. What will it be shaking up next?
