Luckily, my church is not in the weather business. We are in the warmth business.
On Monday morning when it was "cold as the dickens" four Westminster volunteers handed out free coffee and cider to passers by on State St. We even had a Labrador puppy to help.
We didn't expect to change the world or get new members to give money to our church. In fact, that's exactly what we didn't want.
We want to be good neighbors. This winter is rough, and we are all in it together. Maybe a cup of something warm on a Monday morning will encourage people to pay the kindness forward and be good to one another in this bleak season.
May it be so among us.
