I found apples for $1.99 / lb. and bought four of them totaling around $3.00. As I checked out I realized that these four apples were 10% of my food budget for the week. Very special apples, indeed.
Then I bit into one and found it a little soft. After I had so much looked forward to this apple, it didn't really live up to the hype. I ate the apple anyway all the way to the last morsel of the core.
The really dangerous part of my day was walking through the grocery store. My stomach growled as I passed aisles and aisles of enticing foods. Can you imagine? All the food groups? Not to mention frivolous empty calories like cakes or chocolate. (I miss chocolate). Every last calorie in my week is planned out. There's no room for frivolous.
As I made my way to the front of the store with my four measly apples, all I saw around me were things I couldn't have. I even gazed longingly at foods I don't usually buy simply because I knew I couldn't have them.
I've already begun to put together a list of what I will eat next week when this is over. First on the list: Cookies.
